Boscombe Life Drawing Group 26th April

I felt a lot more confident this time around with using more traditional media. I found myself leaning much more towards charcoal pencils and graphite sticks over and above my usual choice of pencils. Even when I used pencil, I was using the softest I've ever gone (4B!) and really focused on making confident marks on the paper. I think at some point I may look to try working with an easel as some of the other artists do, and see how working standing helps/affects the ability to draw gestures. Anyhow, here are the sketches from today!

Studies and Sketches

We're moving into the last couple of weeks with Painting Drama 2, and the we're stepping up into overdrive to put our learning into action with a final piece for the course. I'm working on a Weretiger character painting, which I spent last week working on designs, thumbnails and studies for. I've ended up heading in a different direction to the thumbs posted below, but I thought it might be fun to share these to show the direction I was heading in, before I dived further into the mythology surrounding the character.

There is a TON of other stuff going on in the background as well that I can't share yet (NDAs and all), but suffice to say that 2014 is shaping up to be an exciting year, especially with the trip to LA in November for the CTN Expo.

More to follow this week, stay tuned!

Themed Life Drawing 12th April

Here are a couple of drawings from my first life drawing session in quite a while, at the Themed Life Drawing group in Bournemouth. I had a lot of fun and got to experiment with some media that I don't normally use, namely charcoal!

March Sketch Dump!

Man, March has been a blur! I'm still hard at work with Painting Drama 2 assignments, but I found time somewhere to fill my last sketchbook, so I thought I'd snap a couple of pages and upload them here for fun.
