AA: Skater Sketches

Well after a great Google Hangout session with some of my coursemates on Saturday, here are some of the costume explorations I've started for my AA. I'm now starting to wrap my head around the character translations and the world the story is going to be set in, so hopefully I should be able to start focusing these into more character specific sessions. At the moment though these are very much just explorations and sketches!

AA: Helmet Designs

Well I've started work on my Audacious Accomplishment with an exploration of helmet and costume elements for the scifi skaters. Other than that I've been super busy in art-related-but-not-actually-drawing stuff which has been eating up a fair bit of time for the past couple of weeks... can't wait to tell you all about it.... but not yet!

Coloured Study

I added a bit more detail and colour to the edge study I was working on the other night. I'm pretty pleased with how this turned out!

Art of Dead Space

Sooooo pretty, and contains concept art from all 3 games in a much larger format that the previous Art of Dead Space book I picked up. Also recently arrived... The Skillful Huntsman! What a book.

I think I know what I'm doing this weekend :-)

WIP Edge and Value Study

I posted this up over on Facebook last night as a little snapshot of what I'd been working on, but figured I'd best post it up here as well. After my last OA Live session and critique, I'm trying to focus my attentions and studies (at least in the short term) on edge control. The Mikey painting I worked on really did have super crisp edges all throughout, which worked to create confusion throughout the flow of the painting by drawing too much attention to themselves. By doing some studies from life, hopefully I'll start to understand more about how light affects surface edges!

I'll probably finish this painting over the weekend and post up a final version, before cracking on with another round of studies. I've finally caught up on my OA assignments (which were TONNES of fun over last weekend!) so I'll be moving into week 8 of the course as of this week... can't wait!
