Art of Blizzard

How on earth am I supposed to concentrate on my work now that this beautiful MONSTER of a book has finally arrived from the States?!! Sooooooo pretty... :-D

Michelangelo

Finished! Finally! Here's the Michelangelo painting I've been working on for the past couple of weeks, all done and dusted. Tremendous fun and a real learning experience; it was also amazing to have the input and critique of my coursemates at the Oatley Academy - they really pushed me to make this as awesome as I could :-)

the Making of Final Fantasy: Spirits Within

I found this gem second hand on Amazon for £8 - took a while to arrive from the States, but very much looking forward to pouring over the gorgeous concept art from this movie!

More studies....

Here are a couple of studies I did using the cool Posebook app for iOS by Stephen Silver, and a value sketch from a random Suicide Girl photo. I've spent the last week or so full of lurgie and cold, though well on the road to recovery and being back up to full speed.. so hopefully I've have some more work on my Mikey painting to share soon! I got some great feedback from my coursemates at the Oatley Academy on how I could really ramp up the drama and dynamism with the lighting, so I'm currently working hard to render in the detail and factor it in. Speaking of which, we had a UK Oatley Academy meet up last Saturday at The National Gallery which was great! I got to not only put faces to names, but also got to meet up with some really fun (and very talented) artists. Roll on the next one!

Sketches, sketches, sketches

Here are a couple of pages from my sketchbook this week, including *drum roll please* the first few studies and concepts for my Audacious Accomplishment: A sci-fi reinterpretation of Leon: The Professional, set on an orbital mining facility in a binary star system. I'm pushing myself to draw a lead character that I'd ordinarily shy away from - a young girl. Children and female characters are two big weaknesses for me, so I'm gonna push through them with the AA! (...in theory at least anyhow :-D)

Other than that I had my first Google Hangout painting live with some of my classmates last night which was really cool (and definitely something to be repeated!), and I got some more work done on my Michelangelo painting -- another WIP to follow soon.
